Tournament Structure for the Waste Management Phoenix Open
A stroke play event, the Waste Management Phoenix Open runs from Thursday through Sunday. The tournament is held at the . For the first two days, the entire field will play 18 holes on each day. There is a leaderboard that will show which hole each player is currently at on the course and their present stroke score. Although this leaderboard is on show on each of the four days, it is only where a player finishes on the Sunday (day four) that counts towards . After 36 holes have been played, which will be by the close of play Friday, a cut is administered to trim the field in half with only the strongest performers s🌺o far making it through to the next two day’s play.
By the time Sunday’s 18 holes have been played the tournament should have found a winner. The winner being the player who has shot the highest below par score combined from all four day’s play. If there is a draw and players have a tied tally, then a three hole playoff is held and holes 17, 18༒ and 19🐟 are replayed repeatedly until a winner can be found.

Making the Cut Betting
In every four-day, stroke play golfing event, there is, after two days complete play, a cut enforced where the field is cut in order to trim down the numbers and remove the players that stand no chance of winning the tournament. This process creates an exܫciting new betting market where punters can wager on golfers making or missing out on the cut. In terms of value, if there is a golfing superstar who you believe will miss out, the odds can be sweet. Likewise, if there is an unfancied longshot that you think might do well and qualify for the final two days play, then there is value to be exploited there too.

Hitting a Hole in One Betting
A hole in one bet is a golfing prop bet. A wager on a possible, but potentially unlikely, outcome. Nevertheless, it is a fun way to bet on golf. As golf fans, we love to see a hole in one, such as this beauty from , but they are not something you see every day. They do happen however, and as such, can make for a fun and enjoyable wager on the game. These bets can apply to either a single d🐎ay, the whole tourney or a🍷 nominated player.

Winning Nation Betting
Another way to bet on the Waste Management Phoenix Open is to place a wager on the country from which the winner will hail. This being a PGA event, the field will be overwhelmingly filled with players from the US. However, the top 20 golfers in the PGA rankings will always feature golfers from Europe and maybe Asia and Australia too. So, a clever pick on the nation that will provide the winner makes for a nice little betting market that online bookmakers are only to happen to promote.

History of Waste Management Phoenix Open
-
Formerly known as The Arizona Open, this event was first played in 1932 at the Phoenix Country Club.
-
The event has moved around a lot in its history and did not move to its current home on the 🐼Stadium Course at the Tournament Players Club of Scottsdale until 1987. Prior to this it had also 🌸been held at the .
-
The event has also been cancelled before. In fact, it only lasted three runs before being terminated after the 1935 tournament. The event was back on come 1939 thanks to Bob Goldwater, Sr who, with fellow Thunderbirds, decided to run the event. The influential Thunderbirds, a Phoenix based civic organisation, raised the prominence of the event as well as its prestige and pitched the event to the mega stars of the game at the time, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, who were playing at the Crosby Clambake at Pebble Beach.
-
The two golfing legends were invited to come and play in Phoenix but remained unconvinced. Ultimately though, and thankfully, the pair did participate and since then the Waste Management Phoenix Open has not looked back. Today, this incredibly popular event draws a party crowd of well over half a million fans and has rightly been dubbed the people’s major. In 2021, the most-attended tournament on the PGA Tour was pl🌄ayed out in front of a severely reduced capacity crowd due to the number of COVID-19 cases in Arizona. Fans that did attend were required to wear masks and undergo temperature checks before they were allowed into the grounds.
